Community

The Club Dance Collective is a Linz-based initiative that has been active since 2019, formed by dancers who share a passion for house and disco music and the dance cultures that surround them. A particular focus lies on the local waacking community. This organically grown group thrives on the diversity of its members—people aged 19 to 65 come together in classes, jams, and at international events.

The year 2025 was marked by intensive artistic practice: in addition to regular classes and exchange formats in Linz, various events were organized, including Waackers Weekend, the FLINTA Freestyle Fusion Days*, and the international festival Clubsandwich. Local engagement was further enriched by performances at the Long Night of Stages, Pride, Diversity Day, and video projects such as “Lipstick” – Elektrik Skin.

Traveling to events like Project 54 (Thessaloniki), Discover (Bern), and Summer Dance Forever (Amsterdam) helped to strengthen international connections.

The collective’s aim is to highlight the cultural richness of club dance and to create spaces for encounter, participation, and creative development.

The dance style waacking was significantly shaped by the LGBTQ+ and Black communities in the 1970s. Through various events, this legacy is honored while also promoting inclusion and awareness in Austria.
